I'd always verify something myself before submitting, evenmoreso when it's from a blog or database somewhere as there's bound to be inaccuracies or personal interpretations. Thankfully, I didn't put that list together myself and only listened to a handful, which all checked out. |

If any sample listed seems wrong please flag it to WhoSampled Support and we'll review it. Please remember everyone that you shouldn't list samples of individual drum hits - there are too many to list and they're often hard to verify. Only submit drum loops that are clearly identifiable and contain all or most of the original elements of the loop. |

if all those recent submissions were from that list, I would question the list. I couldn't really hear it in any of them. Maybe they chopped and changed it completely, but they don't even sound like the same elements. |

Stetsasonic's track samples the trumpet that comes right before the break, and not the break itself. Salt-n-Pepa's track samples both the break and that trumpet. I'd suggest that both tracks just found out about "Amen, Brother" due to it being included "Ultimate Breaks and Beats 1", released in 1986. I'll keep looking for more tracks that sample the break, and maybe I'll come up with something pre-1986. |

Yeah Xanadu I know that. Most DnB headz nowadays would roll their eyes if you played the amen break at a club, it's more that tech type DnB. But submit any tune from the mid to late-90s and it's Ayyyyyyymeen. |

TBH I think the only way to go is grouping some samples together just for the lay-out (as you suggested Sublime)... In stead of EVERY sample linked to be stated under it, it would be great if it was indeed split up in Drum samples/Vocal Samples/... (with a + if you want to see those particular samples)... Will be A LOT easier to link other records and we don't have to worry about overfilling a track with it's samples. Btw: don't forget people come on here to search for a track, if it's not linked to it's samples, they might think the sampling artist came up with this Amen break for instance and think that song is an original, if you see where I'm going at |

Hey Sy - yeah, it's unwieldy looking through a list of samples by an artist who is mainly known for a drum break. Perhaps in future their listing could be separated along those lines (drums, riff, melody, etc.) What I have done, and will keep doing is if I submit a sample for a riff or vocal or something, and that same track also samples a drum break, I'll submit that too to kind of "fill" in that particular submission. But I'm not about to go and submit a bunch of old-ass DnB tracks that use Amen haha. |

I was just as surprised as you about this. I'm an oldskool raver and almost every single track of the genre from 1991 to 1994 had the amen break, but I'm not about to go submitting every track I know just to get the rating on here up. I stick away from submitting drumloops purely because some artists will become saturated with these submissions and there may be other parts of the track sampled that will become lost in the huge list. I was actually more surprised by the fact that the Lyn Collins "Think" break didn't even feature in the blog at all, despite being just as widely used as "Amen" and "Funky Drummer". |

I'm a big Jungle and DnB fan, so could get together like 350 submissions of this... but how boring is that ? @Mods - should we submit every damn track of DnB and Jungle that ever used this to try to get near to the number of times it has actually been used over the last 20 years, or should we forget that thankless task and just add examples from more popular tracks ? |

Amen Brother is the genesis of pretty much all rave music from the 90's and has been sampled by more artists and acts over the years then would be possible to list on here. There's probably a billion more examples of that famous drum solo on records than there are of the James Brown vocal stabs that tended to litter the mirriad of sampled music over the decadces. As the 'net video says "six seconds from a B-side record that changed the face of music forever" Now repeat after me - "Our sample, who art from Winstons. Amen Brother thy name, forever and ever, thank you" |
