I guess I had a good hunch on Stravinsky! It really does sound like his style of orchestration (even though it is only one note). Thanks a million for the reply, that's an awesome bit of information.

@dj kirsh It is said in some articles about the ORCH5 (the famous orchestral hit preset of the CMI and probably the one used in "Planet Rock" as Arthur Baker seemed to say) that it is sampled from "Infernal dance of King Kastchei" (from L'oiseau de feu by Stravingsky, that features many "orchestral hits").
The 8bit and low frequency sampling seems to change a lot the timbre though.
It was probably digitised in 1979 by David Vorhaus.
That's an important contribution to music that cames from Australia (Fairlight Company).

I used to wonder where that orchestral stab was from in the beginning and liked to think that it was from Stravinsky's Rite of Spring or something like that. Apparently it was made with a Fairlight CMI

@psychofrug Not an expert here, but I think, this was caused by the lack of sample technology in those early days. In 1982, it was probably much easier to recreate a melody line than to extract it from the actual record.

wonder why it got replayed

The timing for the Kraftwerk track should be 1:35 yeah?

franz said on Friday, 29 May 2009:
to be exactly. The first seconds of Kraftwerks Song are used at 2:18 by Bambaata

Africa Bambaata also uses from the beginning on a Sample for a later Bridge in Planet Rock...
