The "1234" is definitely from the Cold Crush/Fantastic 5 battle tape. The whole thing is on YouTube in 5 parts. Not sure about the "Sassoon" line. I submitted a sample from the tape before (Blackalicious' Swan Lake) but I used info from the Bambaataa release stationary is referring to which is just broken into part 1 and part 2. What we could do is use the 1998 release info instead which broken into more tracks. It's been sampled a lot so it would be of interest. Problem is the one I submitted, Swan Lake, was released before the '98 release. Maybe use the '98 tracklisting but use the year 1981 which when the battle occurred and tapes began circulating. Who's to say they didn't use an old bootleg?

The vocals are also used on Beck's "High 5 (Rock The Catskills)", during the outro. And I seem to be the only one who realizes the vocals are saying "Ooh... la la... Sasson" (an old slogan for Sasson, a designer jeans company... listen to the sample on the Beck song and you'll hear the MC continuing on and mentioning Sergio Valente).

I've read a source stating that the vocals are from the track "Cold Crush vs. The Fantastic Five Part Two" from the LP "Afrika Bambaataa & The Universal Zulu Nation In Conjunction With Music Of Life Presents Hip Hop Funk Dance Classics Volume 1", and that part one of the track has the "1, 2, 3..." vocals. But I can't find the audio source.

We had a submission a while back from the user ryan who suggested the vocal is lifted from Rock Master Scott and the Dynamic Three's "The Roof is on Fire" at 2:05. It's the same track sampled for the Chemical Brothers' "Hey Boy, Hey Girl", so you can have a listen to it on the site. However it's not a direct sample and the reference didn't seem direct and obvious enough for inclusion on the site.

Anyone for the vocals?

"say ooh, lala, say you"...c`mon c`mon , say turn it out, say hooo!"

Thanks.
