Mondegreen, now that's a good term. Either that or something like manipulation. My votes for mondegreen. |

Why not just tag them as 'mondegreen' or 'mondegreen sample' or something? Good idea! |

pano said on Tuesday, 13 December 2011:
I think we should start a tag for such samples :-) Anyone have a good name for it? |

and this is another example from Alchemist: he took the part sayin' "take up where you look" and we expect to hear "take a betta look", and that's what we hear ! http://www.whosampled.com/sample/view/113054/ |

another song where the actual lyrics of the song "appear" to say something different when used as sample: http://www.whosampled.com/sample/view/67/The%20Bucketheads-The%20Bomb!%20%28These%20Sounds%20Fall%20Into%20My%20Mind%29_Chicago-Street%20Player/ |

@Debco7, firstly, if it was an interpolation, the singer's name would be credited in the liner notes. Kanye credits every single person that set foot in the studio on his albums. Secondly, through creativity, millions of dollars of studio equipment, and the power of suggestion, you can manipulate sounds to make them sound how you want. It sounds like "wire" because the name of the song is "Through the Wire", he says "through the wire" right before the sample so that's what we expect to hear and he obscured it a bit. Same thing with the Hold You Down sample. It sounds like "down" because that's what we expect to hear and they played with it. |

@Debco7 its defiantly a direct sample because the credits say it and also if u speed up the through the fire song its there. Its already been corrected before and this is a direct sample. |

Debco7 said on Monday, 12 December 2011:
I think that this sample is actually replayed (an Interpolation), because I Don't Understand How a person can directly sample Vocals/Lyrics from another song if they change the words from "Fire" to "Wire". I mean, if a group of lyrics were lifted from one recording to another, wouldn't the words be exactly the same? Also, i see that y'all mention about The Alchemist and "Hold You 'stand". What other sample(s) are y'all talking about? |

MrBlondNYC said on Wednesday, 27 April 2011:
@jays27: The Alchemist sample actually says "Hold you 'stand". He took the "stand" from the line "soon you'll understand" and made it sound like "down". |

I guess you're right, MrBlondNYC and jays27. It does sound a little weird... |

MrBlondNYC said on Monday, 28 March 2011:
Sounds like he obscured it a little so you don't hear the "f" so strongly. |

i think hes chopped most of it |

tick said on Monday, 28 March 2011:
the other timings should be added 3:11-3:55, is probably we're most of it actually came from, and 4:02. To me you can hear that it says fire, not wire in the Kanye track, no to mention she does say "right down to the wire" as well. |

Good point, jay27. I'll just wait for pano's test results. |

pano said on Sunday, 27 March 2011:
I think jays27 is right :-) I will nevertheless try to manipulate the sample myself and see how it sounds :-D Will report back later ;-) |

@Xanadu: speeding up samples make everything change. |

Jay93 said on Sunday, 27 March 2011:
@Xanadu: dont u knw how to sample? He made the sample sound like wire. Have u heard the alchemist hold you down? The sample actually says hold you there. Its just been sampled to make it sound like that. Trust me. |

Xanadu said on Sunday, 27 March 2011:
@jays27: Did you notice that the original has the word "fire" instead of "wire"? |

Jay93 said on Saturday, 26 March 2011:
umm this is a direct sample not a interpolation. Thought i mite point that out. |
