I've had a listen to this and think that there is definitely a reference here. The lines are almost identical and whilst this type of thing may not fit into a conventional understanding of the word 'sampling' I still think its an interesting enough link to have on the database. Any thoughts?

Glenn1 said on Thursday, 24 September 2009:
the lines between the 2 are very similar. I think just like someone else mentioned that Royce might have ghostwritten this for Smith. if you're familiar with Royce then you can hear him in Smith's verse. i'm thinking it's just a case of royce writing it and throwing in one of his old lines just slightly reworded. all in all i don't think this counts

Rappin Duk Da ha Da Ha, DA Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha! That was the shizzle! When I was about 9! rofl

Rappin Who?

James said on Tuesday, 04 August 2009:
It's not a sample it's a quote. This would be like saying Biggie sampled Rappin' Duke on Juicy, when he clearly didn't.

econogirl said on Saturday, 01 August 2009:
@ evil_twin, rofl at "turn my headphones up" but what about the "YEAH" From Beastie Boys (You Gotta) Fight for your Right (To Party) bwahhhaa!

Esa said on Saturday, 01 August 2009:
I am determine whether this is a sample or not. It is very alike the lyrics by both Smith and Royce.:
Smith's: lines:
"Man, it's like a circus wit a bunch of clowns
Wit a bunch of clicks I'll probably rap circles around"
Royce's lines:
"Rap now is a circus of clowns
A whole lot of lip from cliques I'd probably rap circles around"

I'm with econogirl. I wouldn't have appoved this either.

Latergator43, you have a lot of submissions to post. All the songs out there the start with "turn my headphones up!"

Those are all re-played samples, too! lol

Maybe I am getting old but back in the day what Will Smith did on this sone was called BITING! Now we wanr to call it sampling..Like I said, I would not have approved it, I would have flagged it. (CHOMP)

WiZKaT said on Saturday, 01 August 2009:
Interesting discussion around here. Well, I agree, that the both sound too much the same, too be a just a coincidence. Maybe Will Smith's ghostwriter liked this line so much ;-) I must confess, that I used the term sampling in a more limited way so far, but this discussion here makes me think about what a widespread meaning it could have... (okay, I'm just from Germany...)

latergator43 said on Saturday, 01 August 2009:
Hey, replayed melodies don't always replay a sample note for note. Sometimes they switch it up a little. Can't lyrics do the same?

econogirl said on Saturday, 01 August 2009:
I dunno yall, that is close. I don't think it quite as generic as an I love you or I miss you, but umm that is pretty darn close. I would not have approved that one I would have flagged it.

Spinks said on Saturday, 01 August 2009:
I agree with latergator on this one - the line is quite long, very similar in lyrics, and most importantly not a generic "I love you" type of thing. IMHO the reference was intentional.

evil_twin said on Saturday, 01 August 2009:
So all the songs that say "I love You" or "I Miss You" in the lyrics are samples of one another.
Moderaters need to nip this type of **** in the bud before this website is consider worthless.

L City said on Friday, 31 July 2009:
will smith probably did sample that little bit cos his album came out afterwards unless royce got that verse from somewhere else

L City said on Friday, 31 July 2009:
i thought it was part of the beat will smith sampled. most likely then will smith did sample from royce cos his album came out much later than royce's one did

evil_twin said on Friday, 31 July 2009:
This is clearly not a replayed sample.
If Will was paying hommage to Royce, he woulda repeated the whole line in the same style.

L City said on Friday, 31 July 2009:
i doubt it

latergator43 said on Saturday, 23 May 2009:
It's possible.

mattnice69 said on Monday, 18 May 2009:
Maybe Royce Wrote the tune

latergator43 said on Tuesday, 12 May 2009:
Meh.

Esa said on Tuesday, 12 May 2009:
Don't know if this could be considered as a sample... Royce and Smith both use a verse that have a similar simile but I don't think it would be considered as a sample.
