' Interpolations of lyrics are ALLOWED on this site'

they certainly are, submitted a couple of such entries myself
but self-quotation is a specific type of interpolation which doesn't fall under the 'sampling' term

i don't think the urge of having 'fun' is a good enough excuse for an activity which is not right to begin with

it's ridiculous how irresponsibly people switch terms, causing confusion
it's not by accident that we call a table 'a table' instead of 'a computer', everything has it's own name by which it's being distinguished and denominated, otherwise we wouldn't be able to understand each other

so here when you say 'sampling' i don't understand you, cause you voluntarily broadened the term to include concepts which are not 'sampling' in my book and have their own name to go by

Interpolations of lyrics are ALLOWED on this site. So is any artist sampling themselves as long as it's not from the same album. We're not as strict with the definition of sampling here and that's part of what makes it fun for users.

What about all those Mobb Deep joints where they take a hot line from one of their previous songs and use it for a hook? Get at Me for example gets its title and hook from a line used by Havoc in Quiet Storm Remix. It is resung in much the same way in the Get at Me song as it was on the original. Don't you think people will go "hmmm, where did I hear that before?" It does qualify as a sample or interpolation whatever you wanna call it because there's a direct connection.

requoting? man it's an improper use of word, he is quoting or RE-using, RE-citing, RE-peating, RE-iterating, RE-cycling not RE-quoting
says something about your understanding of the subject

the statement that PE did it many times doesn't hold water as an argument in favor of your opinion
where does the fact that this is sampling logically follows from this argument? just because it's PE and you think that what they did should be labeled sampling?

now, if i incorporate a recorded riff taken out of one of my songs in my another song which is a recorded piece in its own right, that's sampling, if i replay that riff, this is not sampling, but if somebody else takes it and uses in their own song in whatever capacity, then it is

if they used AZ's vocals from Nas's joint as they were, that would qualify for sampling
reciting the same lines is NOT sampling as long as it's done by their author, what this is i said in my 1st post

stationary unit said on Tuesday, 29 June 2010:
It's an interpolation of the lyrics, he's requoting his line from the Nas song, hence it's replayed. And people can sample themselves, Public Enemy have done it dozens of times.

hardly qualified as a sample, one cannot sample himself, it's called reuse, self-quote, not a sample
