I feel obligated to point out that this song is 92.8 BPM, and not 94 BPM like someone posted below. That matters, especially with an emcee like Nas, if you want the rhymes to really ride the beat in a remix. Unfortunately, it looks like master Illmatic acapella files have never been released, so the only acapella that exists for Represent was made by someone using filters...and it's got artifacts of the Gangstarr sample that require some involved DAW editing to slice out and/or bury in the mix.

I wasn't buying that the track was from the 1920s, either. I was actually the one who found the original release details and sent the corrections.

I actually do know of another song that uses the same sample. Unfortunately, it was by a protected artist, so it can't be shown right now.

But I'm definitely sure that Premier had to really dig in the crates to find the sample. I'm not much of a hip-hop fan, but the "Represent" and "Nas Is Like" samples are definitely some of my favorite samples.

MRDR is right.
@Sil van Liere, the fact that the track is not from 1920's, but it doesn't mean that it wasn't extreme digging. Look, only one song uses the same sample :) I think it is a very rare wax s*** !!

MRDR said on Saturday, 07 April 2012:
Would be damn hard to get a clean enough sound from a 1920's record as it would most likely be a 78rpm

Sil van Liere said on Saturday, 07 April 2012:
Ah, so the sampled record is not from the 1920's? To bad, I always thought that was some extreme digging.
