Another One Bites The Dust clearly does NOT sample Kurtis Blow! |

Definitely SIMILAR but DIFFERENT basslines. While you can say that one is influenced by the other, one is not sampled from the other. And that's what this site is all about, right? |

In my opinion, no. There are actually a bunch of songs that came out in 1979-1980 with similar basslines that have been rejected as submissions. They may possibly have been inspired by Good Times. The only reason why I submitted Queen's song as an interpolation of Good Times is because Nile Rodgers said that Queen's bass player was in the studio with Chic when they were working on the song and was inspired by it. So I think that's the only one that's undeniable. |

Is the similary between Christmas Rappin and Good Times close enough to count as a sample? I personally don't, but I've got a submission in my queue that thinks it is. |

Maybe Christmas Rappin samples Good Times??? |

Oh yeah right, didn't pay attention to that interpolated thing. Seems that this is a difficult area, i just stumbled over the fact that a 1979 song samples a 1980 song which can't be true :) |

MrBlondNYC said on Monday, 15 February 2010:
I put that the bassline was interpolated not the whole song. I think the bassline can't be a coincidence but who knows? I also submitted the bassline as an interpolation of Good Times and that has been argued many times here. It is documented that members of Queen were hanging out in the studio as Chic recorded Good Times so they were definitely inspired by it. But the bassline is almost exactly the same as Blow's song. I don't know if there is a definitive statement by a Queen member as to what exactly inspired them. Both songs were big hits in 1979 as Queen was recording The Game. |

I would not say Queen actually "sampled" Kurtis Blow, at least because Wikipedia also says that 'Another One Bites The Dust' was inspired by 'Good Times' by Chic, at least the bassline... hmm. In my opinion its also arguable anyway that 'Christmass Rappin' is a cover of 'Another One Bites The Dust', the guitar part of 'Christmas Rappin' (pretty notable at 1:07) differs pretty much from that of Queens song (starts at 1:05). My guess is that there are more than these two songs involved. |

You're right, they should be switched. |

Wikipedia says Kurtis Blow was recorded in 1979. How come he could've sampled 'Another One Bites The Dust' by Queen when they (according to Wikipedia) recorded their Song in 1980? |
