I know a lot of people hate on Flo Rida, and I for one, was once a hater of horrible rappers ruining great classics. But I've since changed stance being that Flo Rida is not as horrible as 98% of the guys out there. In fact, I like what he does (to each their own.) He aims to get a dance track out that plays at clubs to get people moving, and he succeeds, wonderfully. When DJ KOOL HERC first incorporated the turntables into hip-hop, he had the same goal. There's one part of a song that people just move more to. Why not replay that one part over and over again to feed their enthusiasm? It's not different, and I don't hate it. I embrace it.

And maybe the greater message of all, look how many youngsters have been introduced/reintroduced to Etta James? Hip-hop recycles these old songs and keeps them alive for future generations. That's what this website is all about, discovering the roots of influence. So I will be the black sheep and say GREAT SAMPLE.....

So we have just seen that the sample is credited to Etta James in the sleeve notes. It's a shame to say good-bye to the chain that shows the journey of this sample via Avicii's track but we will always show what is credited...

Flo Rida has a remarkable talent for taking great music and then taking a steamy dump all over it. One 78 for this bulls***.

R.I.P. Etta James she deserves ALL the credit !!!

The Etta James sample is shown in the 'Related Songs' section. We feel that in this case, it is equally important to note the connection with Avicii's song (The sample chain best describes the path of influence as it is). This way, both songs are displayed!

spiketop2oo5 said on Tuesday, 17 January 2012:
Both samples should be up there when you go to Flo Rida's sampled songs, but they should be sampled for different reasons. Etta James deserves way more credit and her song should be the one shown when you search for this sample.

It is impossible to ignore the part that 'Levels' plays in this track. Avicii is credited as a co-writer in Flo's version and the vocal edits are very similar, not to mention the songs themselves. Although the vocals originally do come from the Etta James track we feel it is best to show this connection via the sample chain.

@stationary.1.2.3.4. are you sure that version isnt a demo or a mix someone did. because ive never heard that version .

stationary unit said on Thursday, 05 January 2012:
I think there may be some mix-up here.

The version of "Good Feeling" being used in the video embed here right now (based on timings, this version is the single version, and is also used in the music video) actually samples the original Etta James track, and not "Levels". In this version of "Good Feeling", the vocal sample goes "I get a feeling that I never, never, never, never had before...", as if it was taken from "Something's Got a Hold on Me". "Levels" cuts out the first "I", making the sample go "Get a feeling that I never, never, never, never had before..."

There is a version that heavily samples Avicii (this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EndD-3iw8Ss), which is also the version I hear being played on my local radio station. In this version, both the instrumental and vocals from "Levels" are sampled. The vocal sample goes "Get a feeling that..." in this version of "Good Feeling" instead of "I get a feeling that...". So in this case, Avicii is sampled instead of Etta James.

In short, the original single version samples Etta James and the other version samples Avicii.

Even though the vocal editingon these two tracks sound similiar, The Vocal sample on "Good Feeling" is actually taken from Etta James' "Something's got a Hold On Me"., because if you click on the sample chain ("Levels sample of Something's Got a Hold on Me") and liste to those two tracks at the time announced, you will hear that Avicii didn't Re-sing the lyrics originally sung by Etta James. However, Flo Rida uses a Replayed Drum sample from "Levels"(appears at 1:22) on "Good Feeling (appears at 38 seconds).

When I first heard the Flo Rider song on mainstream radio I was very happy at first and thought they would play Avicii's "Levels"....until the "rap part" came in. Then I was very, very pissed.
