iow since there are 4 song writers and they're using pretty advanced harmonies for a pop song, it seems unlikely that they would feel compelled to borrow materiel at all, especially from a video game. If the chorus was in fact derived from Sonic, it was more than likely done subconsciously.

that's embarrassing! They're both in very closely related keys too, C and F. There's some interesting harmonies in the Jackson song including a modulation to Eb on the last chorus. The song is credited to 4 writers maybe one of them was an avid sonic player. I'd say it's probably coincidence but the sub's already been approved, i would leave it up for the possibility of influence plus it's just pretty funny.
