I am also a big fan of afx and when I said that I was referring to the fact that he was largely absent from big commercial releases since Drukqs. I completely forgot about analord though, as a usually do(was never a big fan of those cuts as they seemed like throwaways to me)

As a nerd and a big fan, I am inclined to point out that Aphex has never left the business. I think making music is something he does naturally at this point. He has been working while having a family. Check out the 2006 release CHOSEN LORDS for his most recent release.

@Jay Robert: haha you gotta remember that Aphex is the king of not giving a s***! Also hes been out of the business for around 13 years or so.

@Otis Jackson thats a crazy story, its weird how he asked "is it a sample" when he was credited for the sample

"On Kanye sampling Drukqs’ “Avril 14th” on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’s “Blame Game”: “Is it a sample? I actually don't know what it ended up being in the end, I'm so slack. I know that he tried to f***ing rip me off and claim that he'd written it, and they tried to get away with not paying. I was really helpful, and when they first sent it to me, I was like, ‘Oh, I can re-do that for you, if you like,’ because they'd sampled it really badly and time-stretched it and there was loads of artifacts. I was like, ‘I'll just replay it for you at that speed if you want.’ And they totally didn't even say ‘hello’ or ‘thanks,’ they just replied with, ‘It's not yours, it's ours, and we're not even asking you any more.’” [laughs]"

This might be a direct sample after all. Here's Ken Lewis talking about this sample: "They had me do a recreation of the piano from"Avril The 14th" by Aphex Twin for the song "Blame Game", but i dont think they used it (or they didnt credit me, not sure). Actually the hardest recreations are often the most simple bare ones, especially of live instruments, because there is absolutely zero room for error and nothing else to mask other frequencies. Piano is especially hard to recreate. if you can imagine how many variables are present in the sound of every piano on earth, its a bit mind numbing. First thing i did was go to the music store and buy 4 more of the highest quality piano libraries i could find (and i already had a bunch of great piano's), then went back to the studio to start auditioning. It took me 2 or 3 solid days, first to figure out the notes, easy part, then the EXACT timings and feel and velocity of each note, THEN dial in the EXACT sound of the original piano. THEN get the reverb perfect. the variables are endless, and it was a nightmare, but it was one of the most exact recreations i've ever done. if i looped it against the original sample, walked away and came back, there was no way at all to tell which was which. then i dont think they used it. oh well."

The language used in the liner notes is 'contains elements of' which is slightly ambiguous. Replay seems more plausible here - the entry has been amended.

It's possible. Lots of the samples Kanye uses are actually recreations, generally by Ken Lewis. Eg the African chant in "Power"

    Mr. B,

What do you do for a living other than tracking down samples ??? ..... Do you still have any connections with the music industry (producers, mixers. DJ's etc.etc) today ?

    P.S.

    What does "Whackadoo" mean ????
