No problem, DJ Anubis :)
Never noticed this "sample" on here before... thanks for pointing this out to me, Xanadu. Some samples need more attention ;)
mama say maas
Michael chants "Ma Ma Se, Ma Ma Sa, Ma Ma Coo Sa" on Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' in the Swahili language (per Quincy Jones' writings) unlike Dibango's Soul Makossa where he sings "Mama Ko mama sa maka makoosa" in Duala a Cameroonian language. though they have the same cadence/rhythm (michael was probably influenced by Manu's song and that's all you need for a lawsuit) they're in different tongues.
wow I knew that part had to come from an african song...but I never knew the name of the artist..maybe that's why the song never had a video...
Michael Jackson did not initially obtain permission to use the chant from Soul Makossa and therefore Manu Dibango sued him for copyright infringement after the release of Thriller. Eventually Dibango received compensation in an out-of-court settlement - must have been quite hefty given Thriller's sales...
