@Debco- Probably because the producers put an effect on it or something. It is a direct sample without a shadow of a doubt.

'I spoke to Joni over the phone and told her we used her sample. Everyone was saying don't even bother. I called her up myself, told her how much of a fan I was and how my brother Randy introduced me to her work. And she said we could use it. I was stoked'.

I pitched Joni's vocals from "Big Yellow Taxi" up to the same pitch as "Got 'Til It's Gone", and, comparing her vocals on the 2 songs, she sounded slightly different.

No. It's still a direct sample. They gave Mitchell a featured credit out of respect. She had nothing to do with the making of the song other than giving her permission for the sample.

Since Joni Mitchell is credited as a featured artist on "Got 'Til It's Gone", shouldn't the vocal sample be listed as replayed/re-sung?

J Dilla produced this. He was robbed for the production credit. He did receive credit for the Ummah Revenge mix though. Look it up. Q-Tip even said it himself.
