Na. just realised it. Kanye just pitched down the stab at the start of each bar during the verse loop and placed it on the last 8th every 2 bars (whilst removing the 3rd "na" on the 2nd bar of the loop)

@Will Despard : when a producer buys the rights to the multitracks , there is always something different in the stems. For example : PYT by mj , i own the multitracks, it comes with extra instruments , a song that last almost 15 mins , extra vocals , etc :)

Where did kanye get those stabs at then end of the verse loop? they're not in the original sample.

not the first time someone has sampled Otis Redding for a song called Otis! http://www.whosampled.com/sample/view/107388/The%20Durutti%20Column-Otis_Otis%20Redding-Pain%20in%20My%20Heart/

honestly, i really do think i understand. I think no one has really sampled try a little tenderness over the years because in this man's opinion, it's just a perfect song. And they gave Otis Redding credit because it would just be blasphemy otherwise. Hate to be a dick, but it's the truth. No one has any business sampling Try a Little Tenderness without giving credit where credit's due to the man himself. So it's just whatever, I was just trying to say that this was out of Otis Redding's hands so I thought it was worth discussing.

Guys, I think everyone of average intelligence understands what's going on with this song. If they don't, there's not much a music website can do to help them.

I don't like the posthumous tag on this. It's not Otis' song. It implies that Jay-Z or Kanye West released this after one of them died.

  • Debco7
    Debco7 said 3 years ago:

Yes, dahlhansen101, "Otis" is considered a posthumous release, since one of the artists, Otis Redding, has been dead for over 40 years now.

  • Debco7
    Debco7 said 3 years ago:

Well i was trying to say, basically, was thatjust because the webpage has a list of samples allegedley sampled by the (Deceased) person doesn't mean that THe Deceased Person actually sampled those paticular tracks, especially if at least one of the tracks were released after that persont has died. I was merely answering dj kirsh's question of How could a dead person Sample a recoriding that came out after their death.

  • BroughtTheNoise
    BroughtTheNoise said 3 years ago:

So...what are you trying to say?

  • Debco7
    Debco7 said 3 years ago:

Samples taken from the James Brown and Audio Two tracks ("Lie/Truth", and "Top Billin'", Respectively) were purely sampled by Jay-Z & Kanye West. When this website says that a track has been "Sampled by" a dead person (In this case, Otis Redding),I Guess they mean that the sampling track Features samples from a track that the deceased recorded while they were still alive. (Example: Jay-Z & Kanye West feat. Otis Redding's "Otis"..."Try A Little Tenderness"=Feat. samples from the Otis Redding recording "Try a Little Tenderness).

  • BroughtTheNoise
    BroughtTheNoise said 3 years ago:

I'm thinking it's because of his part in the song. I mean, he's singing for over half a minute before Jay-Z starts rapping, people are gonna wonder, "Hmmm...who's that?!"

  • Kirsh.
    Kirsh. said 3 years ago:

I think it would be wise if we kept Otis as a featured artist on this song with a link to his whosampled page but kept these samples hidden from the tracks that Otis Redding sampled. This just doesn't make sense but i guess that's just one man's opinion.

  • Kirsh.
    Kirsh. said 3 years ago:

yeah it's all good, just thought it was worth discussing.

  • MrBlondNYC
    MrBlondNYC said 3 years ago:

They wanted to give Otis Redding the credit and respect they feel he deserves for the song. How it looks on his WhoSampled page is of no concern to them and really shouldn't be much of a concern to us.

  • CellarDoor
    CellarDoor said 3 years ago:

They released it as a song featuring Otis Redding, so we list it like that. I don't understand why they did it, to me listing him as a feature doesn't make sense, but that's not the question here. We list it like how it's printed in the booklet or on the album cover.

  • MrBlondNYC
    MrBlondNYC said 3 years ago:

Otis Redding is credited as a featured artist, Bob James is not.

  • Kirsh.
    Kirsh. said 3 years ago:

no but i think the real question is, should we put the sampled artist as a featured artist for every song on this website?! The song isn't featuring Otis Redding any more than Peter Piper by Run DMC is featuring Bob James

  • MrBlondNYC
    MrBlondNYC said 3 years ago:

2Pac has sampled plenty of songs released after his death. Should we delete those?

  • Kirsh.
    Kirsh. said 3 years ago:

I understand why the track was released "featuring Otis Redding" I guess but maybe we should consider taking Otis Redding out of the artist field for this track since it now says on Otis Redding's Whosampled page that he actually sampled Top Billin and Don't Tell a Lie About Me and I Won't Tell the Truth on You by James Brown - both songs released after his death. sort of absurd. Just sayin'

to me this track is like that feeling when you need to yawn but it doesn't happen. I'm just waiting for a beat to drop or something to happen but it doesn't. I really like Otis, Jay-Z and Kanye but it's just not all coming together for me on this one.

... Sorry for what i said bout moderators, i was a little nerve...
And yeah, i forgot to check the mail for it. I'm sorry !

  • Jay Gumb$
Jay Gumb$ said 3 years ago:

@antoine.becuwe Actually, if you submitted It's Like That by The Lox then the moderator did a pretty good job because the song is actually credited to D-Block and is called Like That Y'all (Remix). It's been in the database forever so I doubt you would have been the first to submit it.

    http://www.whosampled.com/sample/view/1374/

If your submission gets rejected, the rejection email will usually have an explanation as to why it got rejected and if you still think the moderator is wrong you can always challenge it by replying to the rejection email where admin will look at it for you.

    antoine.becuwe said 3 years ago:

oh yeah and i was wrong, if i put up a sample who is already in the moderation queue it will be credited to the 1st person who find it.

Jay Gumbs, look, i added The Lox - It's Like That (produced by Pete Rock) sample of Bob James - Nautilus. It's just too obvious ! then someone rejected it ! it sucks, moderators are not doing their work...

And about the embed code: Make sure you dont use the url, we need the embed code. You can get this by going to the YouTube video, clicking Share under it, then clicking Embed and you'll get an Iframe code... That's what we need for embedding ;)
Don't let this discourage you, keep adding ;)

  • Spinks
    Spinks said 3 years ago:

Just to add to what Anubis and Jay said, we are always 100% fair in how we deal with incoming submissions. The system doesn't pick up on something that was previously submitted if it's submitted with (even slightly) different spelling. Whoever submitted first gets the credit, and that applies to everyone.

    MaxMoore said 3 years ago:

I understand what you are saying but actually it told me i had to find a embed code so i copy and pasted it and it kept saying error but thanks i'll try again im not so sure if it were in queue because it didn't say so

  • Jay Gumb$
Jay Gumb$ said 3 years ago:

@antoine & mathie - Anubis is right. If the website wouldn't let you put it up it's because someone else already submitted it and even if it wasn't on the site, it was already in the queue waiting to be approved. If it was found rejected and then someone else pointed out that it is indeed a sample, admin will usually find the rejected one and put that up meaning the first person who submitted it is going to get credit.
