A few months ago.... there was this "Top 50" (conducted by a Canadian media outlet) listing of supposed "Un-original" artists and I was not surprised to see that several that are here (On this site) had made the list . Among those were : Girl Talk, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Christina Aguilera, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Kanye West, DMX, Dr. Dre, Nouvelle Vague (If that's how it's spelled !!!), Eminem and lots of others. I keep forgetting the name of the listing site because it ain't "Listverse.com". |

I agree with cecil, brain freeze and product placement I'd put in the same boat as DIrtchambers (prodigy), Brothers gonna work it out (Chem Bros) and Breezeblock (RJD2 which we can't add for other reasons). |

@Anubis: Sorry, Brainfreeze and Product Placement are DJ mixes by DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist. There are lots of submissions from them. IMO, neither the Brainfreeze stuff or 2 Many DJ's has a place on here, but I'm sure some will disagree. I do think there's a distinction between what Girl Talk does and what 2 Many DJ's do. |

@Cecil: This is the first time I heard of the groups you mention, so I have no knowledge of it.. feel free to report them if they are the same kind of artists as 2 Many DJ's or start a discussion on his page... Main thing is: we need a little consistency... Imo: no DJ-mixes, which to me is the biggest reason why 2 Many DJ's is a step too far. (Their remixes are accepted offc, but I think they're all released under the Soulwax name) |

I agree with you about mashups vs mixes. Someone has added stuff from Dirtchambers which I strongly think shouldn't be on this site. I guess I also agree about 2many DJs, some of the tracks on the As Heard on Soulwax album I think could almost be considered for this site, but others are just songs mixed in to one another, a capella over an instrumental, etc. much like Dirtchambers, you could probably isolate some parts and argue it is a whole new song, but for the most part it is just 2 songs mixed together. Whereas you could argue that Girl Talk is just doing what DJ Shadow is doing (of course this is laughably far from the truth) in constructing an entirely new song out of multiple other songs. It's just that where DJ Shadow digs extremely deep and constructs things of beauty, Girl Talk pieces his out of Pop Music, to make more Pop Music. |

@Anubis, I don't understand how things like 2 Many DJ's are unacceptable but Brainfreeze and Product Placement are. 2 Many DJ's is probably closer sampling than Brainfreeze, since they are computer mixed. Brainfreeze is two men playing records. I know this comment has nothing to do with Girl Talk. |

@Tick, I agree with you on most points here. I also made the connection between Girl Talk & 2 Many DJ's... but now that I reconsider this, there's quiet some difference between the two: Girl Talk makes songs out of samples, 2 Many DJ's makes DJ-mixes (and some remixes)... It's not like we're gonna list every DJ-liveset from now on, right? Or every yearmix for that matter (eventhough that's another thing I'd like to see personally, which brings me to my second point): @Dpacm & MrBlondNYC: I also hate Girl Talk, but I agree this isn't a reason to delete this page :) I noticed 15 people liking this on Facebook, so the guy must have SOME fans :) The fact that most samples are added by the same person are NOT proof that this site lacks quality control (WTH??), but that some people work by artist.. If you do however find a submission that is wrong, feel free to report it.. |

I don't believe he started the label but Illegal Art is an actual record label with a roster of artists. How they get away with it we don't know but there is a record label that has taken legal responsibility for their releases. Illegal Art has been around since the mid-90's and he looks like he's in his 20's so I doubt he started it. |

But what makes him different to other mashup artists? Just cause he has the audacity to start a 'label' and try and make money of something whilst at the same time claiming creative commons... |

MrBlondNYC said on Wednesday, 01 September 2010:
Now, now. Whether you think an artist is talented or not is not the qualification this site uses. There may be artists that you like that other people think suck. So should we not include anyone that people think suck? There wouldn't be a site then. |

I could grab any song and not just sample it or mix it , but I'll slow it down some. We call it "Screwed N' Chopped". You take the track and you slow it down as low as 6 or 7 J's and it will play super slow .... it would sound like If the vocals sound high or drunk and with that a the bass beats are loud than the track itself. |

I understand what you mean, but it's not like he knew that he would be listed on some music site as a top sampler. Plus, a reason why he has the most samples on here is that they are SO identifiable, as opposed to other artists that dig and sample rather obscure tracks. |
