The origins of sampling wasn't about taking credit for someone else's work. It was about decentralizing the music industry's tools and technology required to create music and put it into the hands of the individual. No longer were the masses forced to consume what the big record companies fed them. Nowadays, even a 10 year old has the ability to create music, which isn't always a good thing. That being said, you can decide for yourself who has perfected the art (fill in the producer credit folks!).
