The Kinks

I'm really shocked that this is the first post in the entire rock/pop section, but nevertheless...

I decided to start it off with a thread devoted to one of my favourite bands, The Kinks (although they're obviously not my FAV, which'll be saved for a future date! ) To start this off I guess I shoulld ask:
What is your favourite Kinks song, and possibly album as well?

My favorites are Waterloo Sunset and Sunny Afternoon, my favourite album is Village Green Preservation Society, all of which are amazing pieces of art!

The Kinks

For me The Kinks is primarily a singles band playng the premier league, coming close after yes and yes (not Yes). I remember being disappointed by a few of their albums (which got excellent reviews at the time): Muswell Hillbillies and Schoolboys in Disgrace, so I quit buying them. My fav Kinks song may well be All Day And All Of The Night. I think it's genius to come up with an equally strong song after delivering an instant classic like You Really Got Me. Interestingly, The Doors borrowed it for Hello I Love You.

The Kinks

You should probably check out Somethin' Else by them, that's probably their strongest album, if you don't like that, well, *shrug*

Yeah, I knew of the Doors connection.....wait a minute. *Checks the site*.....huh. Uh, I'll be right back.

I'm back!

The Kinks

My personal favorite among the Kinks songs is "You do something to me" (appears on "Kinks" 1998 and "You Really Got Me - The Best Of" 1999). I have actually been wondering for a long time if this is a cover, since it doesn't really sound like the typical Kinks track.

If anyone is aware of influenses for this song (The Beatles?) please share your fun facts!

The Kinks

This was B side to 'You still want me', their 2nd single released in April 1964. Looks like they spent a weekend in Liverpool or something, this sounds miles away from their next single YOU REALLY GOT ME, that turned pop into rock.
