I've recently started getting into the Psytrance scene and came across this artist completely by accident.
I found this album via Ektoplazm.com and is released for free under Creative Commons license
This pleasantly surprising collection of tracks is based around a story, the details of which I won't go into now, I'll let you discover that for yourselves. The actual tracks are amazingly complex, yet easy on the ears, as it's a predominantly downtempo album. In fact, the first time I heard the album all the way through I couldn't help thinking that it was very similar to some of the old prog-rock story albums or, more recently, the Paul Oakenfold Urban Soundtracks sessions.
Whilst it's all electronic music, it has an underlying layer of intelligence, missing from most modern "electronica". It is a journey through an electronic nursery rhyme, that needs no words. The mood shifts are pretty epic, with darkness and light running throughout, but this doesn't interrupt the flow or the dynamic intention of EE's work. I'd really only have liked it more if there weren't any track gaps, but this is easily remedied for me by just "pete-tonging" it together.
Best enjoyed:
At home, wrapped up warm with a cup of tea in a candlelit room. Make sure the bass is up high, but the overall volume pretty moderate, as this will enhance the mood even more.
Overall Review
Simply brilliant -
