Yeah Arthur, some of my submissions were sometimes rejected nonsensically. WhoSampled can be a bit unfair sometimes. It's a pain in the ass.

..I got rejected on this one. But I think it's interesting enough to at least post here on the comments...

This took a little while, but it's ready. Searches now fully support accents, so that you get the same results whether you search with accents or without. We'll now change all names that should have accents to their true form. Hello Motörhead! :)

Spinks said on Sunday, 25 April 2010:
Thanks guys - we're indeed looking at having special character support in the search function so that results are returned regardless of whether a character was entered with the accents. We'll then aim to always show the correct spelling for all artists in the database. We've been waiting for a forthcoming update of our database software, which should include this feature, but it seems like it's gonna take longer than we thought so we'll probably aim to come up with a workaround. Thanks for letting us know about the importance of this!

@Walter, just like you typed it here, copy and paste the name in the artist field. But I'm glad to see I'm not the only one pointing these things out. I understand the difficulty, and hope we can work around this with a better search function, as you can't forget: in some countries if a letter doesn't have the accent, is has a completely different sound... But enough about spelling: Enjoy the music!

"especially when there are accented character in first couple of letters of a name before autofill suggests anything" ...Now I see why I can't link anything to João Gilberto's songs... The auto-search machine wasn't able to find The Girl From Ipanema for me yesterday. Can somebody fix this please? or tell me how I may bypass this?

I am Dutch, but the keyboard here don't actually have special keys for accents. In Windows my language is set to Dutch, enabling me to enter accents by first pressing a symbol and then a letter to give it the accent (for example: a single quote (') followed by an e results in an é). But I understand MrBlondNYC's point of view, as most American PC's don't support this by default. I hate to repeat myself, but I think searching for both accentless and accented words should return the same results and of course display any accents anywhere. For now, it's okay the way it is. Until this issue is solved it can confusing and annoying when entering an artist name (especially when there are accented character in first couple of letters of a name before autofill suggests anything).

I didn't really think about that...I have already submitted some songs with "special" letters...but i submitted the motörhead songs as motorhead though

MrBlondNYC said on Sunday, 25 April 2010:
Because it makes it easier to search for. Not all keyboards have the ability to write accents or umaluts on top of letters especially in America. So if it were written with the umlaut, if you don't have that on your keyboard you can't find the name. I think the admins are working on this so that someday it will be able to redirect.

Motorhead is actually written Motörhead...why isn't it listed like that?
