Yes. It's quite common for artists to write songs for others, only to later record and release them themselves. It's not correct to always credit the songwriter's version as the original version, and therefore we go by release date. There's a tag called "Songwriter's Version" (as shown on this page too), which highlights such cases. |

This is a case of a "cover version" by the original composer of the song. Marsha Ambrosius of Floetry co-wrote the song, but Floetry's version was commercially released after Michael Jackson's. We therefore consider Floetry's version to be the cover rather than the other way around. |
