Well he was 19 at the time. I bet you were an annoying little piss at 19 too. haha, We all were. RE: Oasis. I remember when that song came out, all the music critics saying that they used the same drum break as NWA's Straight Outta Compton which is the Amen break and Oasis is known for stealing. I will take another listen. |

I know I was going to regret sayin' that... nah, didn't even notice an English accent... it's just... listen from 0:38... all those extra noises after his words... why? I have a feeling I would rap better than that, that whole intro just bugs me, the guy is so annoying in it, the way he says ladidadi, I'd slap him :D... once the flow starts, I'm down :) MrBlondNYC, can you have a listen to the Oasis "sample" of Amen break (not sure if replayed drums are allowed? Thought unless really clear?) |

You find Slick Rick's voice annoying? Is it the English accent? It really made him stand out in America back in the day. The only thing that bothered about this cover was when the original would come on the radio, people would say "They copied Snoop!" It was a little controversial too because back then rappers didn't cover rap songs unless they were doing a parody. Covering could be considered "biting". But if you can cover in any genre, why not hip-hop? It's a nice tribute and Doggystyle is a classic. But having said that, it's a track I usually skip. I like Snoop's cover of The Vapors a lot more. |

Since this one has absolutely NO votes, a question: What do you think about this cover? I said this before but I knew Snoop's album before I knew about the original (Doggystyle = first encounter with Hiphop)... so when I found out, I got a little dissappointed in Snoop for covering this word for word, except for the "doggy underwear" and s***. Or should I see this as a nice tribute? On the other hand, I prefer Snoops version, Slick Rick has that annoying voice going on, but HIS *Stretch out yawn* is better than Snoops, aaarggh :D Tell me which one do you prefer and why? |
