A few months ago.... there was this "Top 50" (conducted by a Canadian media outlet) listing of supposed "Un-original" artists and I was not surprised to see that several that are here (On this site) had made the list . Among those were : Girl Talk, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Christina Aguilera, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Kanye West, DMX, Dr. Dre, Nouvelle Vague (If that's how it's spelled !!!), Eminem and lots of others. I keep forgetting the name of the listing site because it ain't "Listverse.com".
DJ Screw make better sampling/remixes than this muthaf***in' puto-joto ass culero !R.I.P. MY n**** DJ SCREW !!!!!
He gave a press statement to vh1 saying that he is not a DJ !!!! Then what the f*** is he .... GAY !!!!! He sure has no life whatsoever !
I agree with cecil, brain freeze and product placement I'd put in the same boat as DIrtchambers (prodigy), Brothers gonna work it out (Chem Bros) and Breezeblock (RJD2 which we can't add for other reasons).
@Anubis: Sorry, Brainfreeze and Product Placement are DJ mixes by DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist. There are lots of submissions from them. IMO, neither the Brainfreeze stuff or 2 Many DJ's has a place on here, but I'm sure some will disagree. I do think there's a distinction between what Girl Talk does and what 2 Many DJ's do.
@Cecil: This is the first time I heard of the groups you mention, so I have no knowledge of it.. feel free to report them if they are the same kind of artists as 2 Many DJ's or start a discussion on his page... Main thing is: we need a little consistency... Imo: no DJ-mixes, which to me is the biggest reason why 2 Many DJ's is a step too far. (Their remixes are accepted offc, but I think they're all released under the Soulwax name)
I agree with you about mashups vs mixes.Someone has added stuff from Dirtchambers which I strongly think shouldn't be on this site.I guess I also agree about 2many DJs, some of the tracks on the As Heard on Soulwax album I think could almost be considered for this site, but others are just songs mixed in to one another, a capella over an instrumental, etc. much like Dirtchambers, you could probably isolate some parts and argue it is a whole new song, but for the most part it is just 2 songs mixed together.Whereas you could argue that Girl Talk is just doing what DJ Shadow is doing (of course this is laughably far from the truth) in constructing an entirely new song out of multiple other songs. It's just that where DJ Shadow digs extremely deep and constructs things of beauty, Girl Talk pieces his out of Pop Music, to make more Pop Music.
@Anubis, I don't understand how things like 2 Many DJ's are unacceptable but Brainfreeze and Product Placement are. 2 Many DJ's is probably closer sampling than Brainfreeze, since they are computer mixed. Brainfreeze is two men playing records. I know this comment has nothing to do with Girl Talk.
@Tick, I agree with you on most points here. I also made the connection between Girl Talk & 2 Many DJ's... but now that I reconsider this, there's quiet some difference between the two: Girl Talk makes songs out of samples, 2 Many DJ's makes DJ-mixes (and some remixes)... It's not like we're gonna list every DJ-liveset from now on, right? Or every yearmix for that matter (eventhough that's another thing I'd like to see personally, which brings me to my second point):@Dpacm & MrBlondNYC: I also hate Girl Talk, but I agree this isn't a reason to delete this page :) I noticed 15 people liking this on Facebook, so the guy must have SOME fans :) The fact that most samples are added by the same person are NOT proof that this site lacks quality control (WTH??), but that some people work by artist.. If you do however find a submission that is wrong, feel free to report it..
yep fair enough, I take that bit back :)
I don't believe he started the label but Illegal Art is an actual record label with a roster of artists. How they get away with it we don't know but there is a record label that has taken legal responsibility for their releases. Illegal Art has been around since the mid-90's and he looks like he's in his 20's so I doubt he started it.
But what makes him different to other mashup artists? Just cause he has the audacity to start a 'label' and try and make money of something whilst at the same time claiming creative commons...
Now, now. Whether you think an artist is talented or not is not the qualification this site uses. There may be artists that you like that other people think suck. So should we not include anyone that people think suck? There wouldn't be a site then.
dpacm, I agree with you
Majority of these lame ass submissions are by the same user. Shows lack of quality control on this site. Very disappointing to see.
I agree with the below comment, this guy literally f*cking sucks. 576 songs+ of some amateur crap. His s*** needs to be omitted from this site!
He f***in' sucks, f***in' blows (PERIOD!!!!) !!!
Woah, you;re right, i've never seen such pink skin before!
@ DrPepper LOL, even looks a lil red to me... @ 11 Electricians: I don't like what he does either (at all), but I won't go around spamming his artist page... Check out artists you DO like. Enjoy ;)
I could grab any song and not just sample it or mix it , but I'll slow it down some. We call it "Screwed N' Chopped". You take the track and you slow it down as low as 6 or 7 J's and it will play super slow .... it would sound like If the vocals sound high or drunk and with that a the bass beats are loud than the track itself.
Err...Girl Talk isn't black....CAn you not see the pic?^^
I'm a better mix DJ than this putoass-culero !!!
I f***in' hat e GT (Girl Talk) .....f*** YOU n**** !!!!
His recent album is pretty good, but his first three... ughhhh.....
lol, nice comparison.
they are just bad mashups if you ask me.Much better mashup artists out there that deserve recognition. He seems like the Lil Wayne of the mashup world.
girl talks in pcmag after hours talking about how he uses his laptop http://bit.ly/9BuIuV
Don't know what to think about this guy... Is there anyone who actually likes these mixes? And couldn't we add the 2 many dj's mixes on here too, since they did exactly the same, and correct me if I'm wrong but I think they ARE known around the world.
I saw in a documentary about copyrights in class the other day!
all of the songs he sampled are already famous and been sampled before , so he don't give us the thrill of finding that he put a lot of effort to find it and to find the part to sample ,, and i think he'll go to jail or go broke if he continue lol
I'm sorry to piss you off more, ludvicasha, but the admins are working giving him an award for Greatest Producer of All-Time made of conflict diamonds and elephant tusks and will settle all of his lawsuits for the uncleared samples.
Plus, he seems to specialise in mash ups... hence the amount of sampling!
I understand what you mean, but it's not like he knew that he would be listed on some music site as a top sampler. Plus, a reason why he has the most samples on here is that they are SO identifiable, as opposed to other artists that dig and sample rather obscure tracks.
I never heard of him too, but it pisses me of that guy like this has more songs sampled than legend hip-hip producers. grrrr
Why's that ludvicasha? Is this guy big in the States...? I've never heard of him in the UK.
I hate this guy
this guy ot this band , just came out from nowhere :D:D and he looks like he knows every song on the planet
Well you can't really expect him to be original.
I don't know how many people know this, but I found it interesting. Girl Talk's stage name and the cover of his debut album "Secret Diary" come from a late eighties slumber party board game: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/5717/girl-talk
That's funny...imagine if every artist on that list sued...
Ah ha! I love it.
They're all uncleared. That's why his label is called "Illegal Art".
Either his albums cost a fortune or his label is... laid back about such matters.
Yeah, this page is gonna be long. Very long. :)
Girl Talk publishes sample lists for his albums, so before you submit samples from his albums Night Ripper/Feed the Animals, you might want to take a look at the lists:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_Ripperhttp://www.flickr.com/photos/sjheil/2968758633/sizes/l/
And roughly 300 more samples to go.
