F-O aka MyndQuest
My name is F-O, I live in Québec, Canada.
I mainly listen to underground hip-hop music, but I also like metal, alternative rock, punk, movie scores, video games music, nearly everything, actually. Beside music, I like cinema, tennis and hockey. I also love producing beats, I might even make an album someday.
I'm currently trying to submit all the significant cover songs of 2011 (added 57 yet).
~Some of my favorite submissions~
"Today it is [harder to clear songs], because people want so much money for sampling their music. But it is what it is, it's a business. There are a lot of artists out there who don't mind you sampling their music, like Elton John, and then you got people out there who don't want hip-hop producers sampling their music. And then you got people who just want money for it. They take sixty or seventy-five percent of the song, and then you won't really make any money off the record. But it sounds great, so I'm gonna keep doing it regardless. Not everybody's an a-hole." -Pete Rock
"A digital sound sample in angry rap doesn't correspond to the graffiti but the wall." -Jaron Lanier
"Cutting and pasting is the essence of what hip-hop culture is all about for me. It's about drawing from what's around you, and subverting it and de-contextualizing it." -DJ Shadow
"Sampling artistry is a very misunderstood form of music. A lot of people think sampling is thievery but it can take more time to find the right sample than to make up a riff." -Prince Be Softly
"Plagiarism is when you're trying to mimic and call it your own, and sampling is when you're trying to take the actual thing and turn it into something else. You're not calling it your own, you're saying it's a sample, and that's exactly what it is. It's made from other people's music, and this is what I've done with it." -Amon Tobin
